James Hemker

James is a Developmental Biology PhD student in the Petrov Lab. He is interested in evolution’s effect on the structure of the genome. James is investigating this by applying a host of sequencing techniques to the fruit fly genus Drosophila. By using a combination of long-read whole genome sequencing, single-nucleus RNA sequencing, and bulk RNA sequencing, he hopes to map causal loci in adaptive species with high resolution. James received his B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he worked on phylogenomics.
